The Freedom Night Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABA ACACA DEDFG

I remember that old and gloomy nightA
When expedient was it that we escapeB
At the expense of a dim crescent lightA
Mother watched our captors in utter gapeB
Who fast asleep fell in our very sightA
-
She reached for my frail arm and held it tightA
Darkness was fast approaching towards dawnC
Suddenly she rose in great power and mightA
In an instant her greatest fear was goneC
And within a moment the moon came brightA
-
Then out we crept from one of those dark cavesD
The night was silent the moon overheadE
No longer were we going to be slavesD
But then once outside a rear voice we heardF
We took to our heels and ran for dear livesG

Poet's note: 'The Freedom Night' paints a picture of God's deliverance of His people from a severe captivity which threatened to destroy them completely. Even though the word 'God' or 'Lord' does not appear in this poem, God is very much behind the scene, guiding their affairs in captivity and making everything work together for their good unto freedom. It also depicts freedom from darkness and sin into God's marvelous light.
