Into the arena the lyricistB
Laughter and love in lineC
Adjusts the frameD
Plucked the strings speakE
He tamely sounds his nameD
And his mother's clan and father's gameD
Throat clears smile smear and the audience respondsF
Ese Wasike Wa MusunguE
He strikes the stringsG
Omukeni wa NachangoE
Responds the rhythmH
Ese efwe bakisiayi NealaI
Be Mwiala wa MangoE
The music mixes with the mindJ
The shoulders suavely scintillateJ
Chimbengele chime in chorusK
The men and women are up on their feetJ
They toe their feet in the sandJ
Vibrate their shoulders as their vocalsL
Wasike woos them onM
With the tale of generosityJ
Eat with your neighbor who will dig your grave when you dieJ
The text is timeless the tune a treasureN
Kenya is independent we don't want troubleO
And the woman who goes to work for Indians in townP
