An old story I know so well | A |
It is the tale of how Pride fell | A |
And landed shamefully in hell | A |

He used to be lowly and wise | B |
Until he chose the serpent lies | B |
Over godly and sound advice | C |
Of obedience to sacrifice | C |

He longed for wealth influence and fame | D |
He craved for pow'r beyond his frame | D |
He loved riches than a good name | D |
Not knowing they'll all bring him shame | D |

He longed to ride on top the world | E |
He craved for fame that spreads abroad | F |
Far beyond what he could afford | G |
He really craved to be like God | H |

So he settled at a fair deal | I |
With the devil's approving seal | I |
Not knowing he'd declared his will | J |
At the expense of his own will | J |

Now after the deal had been done | K |
High up and swiftly they were gone | L |
So high he seemed close to the sun | K |
And yet his soft skin did not burn | M |

He was raised to a lofty height | N |
So high he seemed close to sunlight | N |
And closer to the moon at night | N |
And up there he felt very light | N |

He felt the wealth influence and fame | D |
He held the pow'r within his frame | D |
He loved the fame than his good name | D |
All he craved for finally came | D |

He felt atop the whole wide world | E |
He heard his fame far and abroad | F |
Far beyond what he could afford | G |
He truly seemed to be like God | H |

Then at the world's peak he appeared | O |
Held by Satan he needs not care | P |
But then Lucifer disappeared | O |
And Pride came tumbling down with fear | Q |

All his worth vanished in a flash | R |
His world was falling to a clash | R |
He didn't land with a slight splash | R |
Oh no he landed with a crash | R |

When the devil lifts a man high | S |
It's so that his fall may be great | T |
Pride goes before a fatal fall | U |
A haughty spirit before doom | V |
