I have a sweet story to tellA
An old story I know so wellA
It is the tale of how Pride fellA
And landed shamefully in hellA
-
He used to be lowly and wiseB
Until he chose the serpent liesB
Over godly and sound adviceC
Of obedience to sacrificeC
-
He longed for wealth influence and fameD
He craved for pow'r beyond his frameD
He loved riches than a good nameD
Not knowing they'll all bring him shameD
-
He longed to ride on top the worldE
He craved for fame that spreads abroadF
Far beyond what he could affordG
He really craved to be like GodH
-
So he settled at a fair dealI
With the devil's approving sealI
Not knowing he'd declared his willJ
At the expense of his own willJ
-
Now after the deal had been doneK
High up and swiftly they were goneL
So high he seemed close to the sunK
And yet his soft skin did not burnM
-
He was raised to a lofty heightN
So high he seemed close to sunlightN
And closer to the moon at nightN
And up there he felt very lightN
-
He felt the wealth influence and fameD
He held the pow'r within his frameD
He loved the fame than his good nameD
All he craved for finally cameD
-
He felt atop the whole wide worldE
He heard his fame far and abroadF
Far beyond what he could affordG
He truly seemed to be like GodH
-
Then at the world's peak he appearedO
Held by Satan he needs not careP
But then Lucifer disappearedO
And Pride came tumbling down with fearQ
-
All his worth vanished in a flashR
His world was falling to a clashR
He didn't land with a slight splashR
Oh no he landed with a crashR
-
This is the tale I had to tellA
The old story I know so wellA
The sweet story of how Pride fellA
And landed fatally in hellA
-
When the devil lifts a man highS
It's so that his fall may be greatT
Pride goes before a fatal fallU
A haughty spirit before doomV
-
He who is down needs not fear fallU
Therefore humble yourself UnderW
The mighty hand of God and HeX
Will exalt you in due seasonK
