In The Beginning Of Robe's Geography. Written At Paris, 1700. Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABCDEEFFGHIIIIJJKL MMNN MMOOPN QQRRSII

Of all that William rules or robeA
Describes great Rhea of thy globeA
When or on posthorse or in chaiseB
With much expense and little easeC
My destin'd miles I shall have goneD
By Thames or Maese by Po or RhoneE
And found no foot of earth my ownE
Great Mother let me once be ableF
To have a garden house and stableF
That I may read and ride and plantG
Superior to desire or wantH
And as health fails and years increaseI
Sit down and think and die in peaceI
Oblige thy favourite undertakersI
To throw me in but twenty acresI
This number sure they may allowJ
For pasture ten and ten for ploughJ
'Tis all that I would wish or hopeK
For me and John and Nell and CropL
-
Then as thou wilt dispose the restM
And let not Fortune spoil the jestM
To those who at the market rateN
Can barter honour for estateN
-
Now if thou grant'st me my requestM
To make thy vot'ry truly bless'dM
Let curs'd revenge and saucy prideO
To some bleak rock far off be tiedO
Nor e'er approach my rural seatP
To tempt me to be base and greatN
-
And Goddess this kind office doneQ
Charge Venus to command her sonQ
Wherever else she lets him roveR
To shun my house and field and groveR
Peace cannot dwell with Hate or LoveS
Hear gracious Rhea what I sayI
And thy petitioner shall prayI
