To the peak of my melodyA
In Matowi tree I whistleB
Calming my bitterness with sweetnessC
Twisted in my thoughtsD
About to breakdownE
Yet the voice of my ancestorsF
Rebuke me as they consider me a desertG
-
Hidden in a fog of ValourH
Labelled before my existenceI
They expect me to bleedJ
With a grinning faceK
Could this be Valour or VanityA
Wishing all folks envisionL
Colour of my eyes in the closed eyelidsM
-
Above this Armor of honorH
My body is fully bruisedN
However a brave warrior you seeA
Knowing none about a water fall of tearsO
Falling inside my intestinesP
A Hill of Toxins decaying in meA
Fighting a battle beyond your detection abilityA
-
Raised in this locationL
Carrying our flag was labeled on meA
To preserve and make it blossomQ
Like a watered flowerH
Is defined as Manning upR
Hence commemoration of our dayS
Isn t keenly regarded so is this equalityA
-
Laying on Lake of ImpartialityA
Ungrateful I could beA
To put all blame and red marksT
Without consideration of SaltsU
You spilled on my plateV
Full of food that stimulated my growthW
Finally I m a little Giant among eldersF
-
Now hear My Proposal My wishX
Hopes and aspirationsP
Will fluctuate more and moreH
All because re branding is all I seekY
As centuries turnZ
Co existence of a new lifelineA2
Must evolveB2
-
Mwene wa ma MweneA2
Is my dream title in this VillageC2
Though my wishes conflict with our normsD2
On the Gorge of unwavering hardshipsE2
It matters not how weak I beA
For I walk on its edges without draggingF2
Just behind these curtains I hide my griefG2

Poet's note: From childhood many males were groomed in a hard way that men don't cry and I was raised in that way too. Growing up I realised that emotions are not a sign of weakness but it only shows that you were trying to be strong for too long, things fallen apart and you can't help it but grieve. The title of the poem contains an African word "Mulhopwana" which is a Lhomwe term that stands for "boy/male" and the word "mwene wa ma mwene" stands for "King of Kings". Inside the poem you will see experience of a young man in an African society who has openly revealed what happens in his unguarded moments when life knocks him down showing to his society that men are not robots their voice matters, tears are part of us just as happiness was meant to be.
