WHY HAVE YOU FORSAKEN ME?
“Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” meaning “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”
These are the words of my savior
On the cross which became His death mat
In anguish, He suffers for my sins
Liberating me from the captivity of death

A shameful death my savior died
With His Father on the throne of grace
As it seems, uttering no word of grace
So my savior asked;
Why are you so far from saving me?
Hmmm, take this cup away, but not in my interest

Crying out by day, but you do not answer,
Yet you remain enthroned Holy One;
All who see Him mock Him for my sins
They hurl insults, shaking their heads.
Oh you Lord arise and rescue
For obedient, He remains until death

You asked for water and you were given vinegar
My sins, so bitter you couldn’t take a sip
Your ribs pierced so hard as how the weak spot of an armor plate is pierced
Cling to the cross with nails in your palms and feet
With blood oozing as water from the mountain
This breaks my heart
So I asked, why do I make my Lord suffer?

The suffering of my Lord breaks me
I am poured out like water,
And all my bones are out of joint
My heart has turned to a wax
Melting within me like the candle
For my sins remain in my presence

A load of my sin so heavy for him to carry
Scorned by everyone, despised by the people
Aaargh! Aaargh!, my heart breaks
Knowing my sins made him go through the pain
Get behind me sin and I will strive to sin no more

I am nothing but a worm and not a man,
But my savior died so I do not perish
Roaring like lions that tear their prey
Is the nature of my sin to my savior
Nailing him on the cross with no regret
For my sins became His cross

I am pained by the atrocities I brought upon you
Be my strength as I planned to sin no more
For I hate sin and it's a compliment
That your death will bring perpetual salvation to me
For you have saved me and indeed I am saved
