I knew him once,
Met him before,
He was there in another life.
Before time began ticking,
When the past had not passed,
He was there.
As young girls pray to meet the one,
I prayed for him.
I became a woman and forgot him.
God could not have fashioned him just for me.
I went through others,
Became a cynic .
Laughed in the face of true love.
Mocked those who believe in The One.
No such thing I said.
Then he knocked on my door .
If perfection exists it is him.
Compatible in every way.
As if dreamed him out.
I knew him instantly,
I recognized him from get go.
I met him before in my mind,
In childhood imagination ,
In adolescent prayer.
Here he is as I wished.
Taken aback I panicked.
I ran.
It is not because I do not love him,
Just that I know he is The One.
He Was Always There

Poet's note: This poem was inspired by the one man who ever fought for me. To him I have written in half regret of how I handled issues between us and choices I made for the best. The poem is a human study of how we wish for what we can not handle and take it for granted.
