The Cause Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCC DEDFGG HIHIJJ KLKLMM NMNMOO PIPIQQ RSRSII

Out of these throes that search and searA
What is it so deep arises in usB
Above the shaken thoughts of fearA
Whatever thread the Fates may spin usB
Above the horror that would drownC
And tempest that would strike us downC
-
It is to stand in cleansing lightD
The cloud of dullard habit liftedE
To use a certainty of sightD
And breathe an air by peril siftedF
The things that once we deemed of priceG
Consumed in smoke of sacrificeG
-
It is to feel the world we knewH
Changed to a wonder past our knowingI
The grass the trees the skiey blueH
The very stones are inly glowingI
With something infinite behindJ
These shadows ardently divinedJ
-
We went our ways each bosom boreK
Its spark of separate desireL
But each now kindles to the coreK
With faith from this transfusing fireL
Whereto our inmost longings runM
To be made infinitely oneM
-
With that which nothing can destroyN
Which lives when all is crushed and takenM
The home of dearer than our joyN
By all save by the soul forsakenM
The soul that strips her clean of careO
Because she breathes her native airO
-
Yet not in scorn of lovely earthP
And human sweetness born of livingI
For these are grown of dearer worthP
A gift more precious in the givingI
Since through this raiment's hues and linesQ
The glory of the spirit shinesQ
-
Faces of radiant youth that goR
Like rivers singing to the seaS
You count no careful cost you knowR
Of that far secret you are freeS
And life in you its splendour spendingI
Sings the stars' song that has no endingI
