I AM A CALIPH OF GODA
-
Am I in the body orB
the body is in meC
I swear I am not this bodyC
It perishes and decaysD
Am I in the soul orB
the soul is in meC
I swear I am a soulE
A treasure in my bodyC
I dwell in this bodyC
It houses me for a timeF
I am like a pearlG
Hidden in oyster's shellH
I am like a bird in a cageI
Eager to fly outJ
Am I in the light orB
the light is in meC
Am I in the sound orB
the sound is in meC
The sound and the lightK
Both are from infinite GodA
When I hear the soundL
I hear God's songM
When I see the lightK
I see God's lightK
I am from the sea of vast eternityC
Where never the flute stops soundingN
Where never the sun stops shiningN
I am from eternal wisdomO
That pervades everything everywhereP
I am a happy man indeedQ
An honoured caliph of great GodA
I cannot dance O Lord to your fluteR
Unless you lead me to your lightK
