Dedicated to Muslim womenA
-
By the fountain east of the Turkish borderB
My Muslim lover waits for meC
I shall be at her side before nightfallD
And I shall gently brush her faceE
-
Something goes wrong with our rendezvousF
The rebels abduct me unexpectedlyC
Somehow they think I am an informerB
-
Here in this dark and damp cave I prayG
I recall the nights I spent with my darlingH
We had good times at the fountainA
How I miss the moonlight and my guitarI
-
The rebels are holding me in captivityC
If I could send her good tidingsJ
Her heart would not be filled with dismayG
-
We used to sit by the fountainA
She would sing while I played my guitarI
We would dance on the wall of the fountainA
And we would jump in the waterB
-
Each morning she goes back to the fountainA
She sits and waits expectantlyC
And she sings her love songs for meC
-
Rajeeyah will never lose hopeK
Her heart tells her that I am aliveL
She is sad lonely and afraidM
But my safe return will bring her gladnessJ
-
On this foggy and snowy morningH
I escape from my captors and fleeC
But I feel a sharp pain in my left sideN
-
I am only a short distance from the villageO
And I have to get across the borderB
I cannot let the pursuers kill meC
-
I am cold and I am getting weakP
But my love for Rajeeyah strengthens meC
And I get up each time I fall in the snowQ
-
Limping and leaning on a long stickR
I manage to cross the border safelyC
The villagers rescue me and nurse my woundsJ
-
It is a miracle that I am freeC
Now I must hurry to the fountainA
My beauty waits for me thereS
-
I see Rajeeyah from a distanceJ
Although the water is frozenA
She is still hoping that I shall returnT
-
My darling catches sight of meC
And she runs to greet me with open armsJ
We embrace each otherB
And tears roll down our cheeksJ
-
Rajeeyah and I are together at lastU
The fountain gave her faith in meC
Our kisses filled the night with loveV
Nothing can keep me away from my babyC
