Our cantankerous leaders
have failed us,
We thought we voted a messiah
But they became worse than Judas.
We are gullible before their feets
We are the architects of our fate
Our birth right mortgaged for a pot
of porridge.
The system is punctured
with corruption and greed,
Figure heads are ghost heads
Under the caprices of the demonic Cabals.
We patiently await a Saviour
Whose coming we look out for,
Who is behind the mask?
Yahweh will expose them in due time.
We are running out of patience
We are lied to,
That the Youths are the leaders
of tomorrow.
But the tomorrow will never come
We are struggling and hustling
Under the mocking rain and the smiling sun.
Revolution our national anthem
War of the pens are not heard
Ghanaian youths delivered,
Someday, we must surely deliver.
The Figure Heads
Jude Chukwuemeka Muoneke
Poet's note: This is a political poem. Its satires the leadership lipholes in Africa, to be precise Nigeria. The political leadership of Nigeria is nothing to write home about. We the youths are tired and frustrated with the nature of the governing system. The youths are rooming the streets of the nation in search of a job. Hunger slaps their faces. When will the youths become the leaders of tomorrow? The grey hairs have hijacked all jobs meant for the youths. We are clamoring for restructuring of the country. We are believing that someday things will turn around for good in Nigeria.
