The winter comes I walk aloneA
I want no bird to singB
To those who keep their hearts their ownA
The winter is the springB
No flowers to please no bees to humC
The coming spring's already comeC
-
I never want the Christmas roseD
To come before its timeE
The seasons each as God bestowsD
Are simple and sublimeE
I love to see the snowstorm hingB
'Tis but the winter garb of springB
-
I never want the grass to bloomF
The snowstorm's best in whiteG
I love to see the tempest comeC
And love its piercing lightG
The dazzled eyes that love to clingB
O'er snow white meadows sees the springB
-
I love the snow the crumpling snowH
That hangs on everythingB
It covers everything belowH
Like white dove's brooding wingB
A landscape to the aching sightG
A vast expanse of dazzling lightG
-
It is the foliage of the woodsI
That winters bring the dressJ
White Easter of the year in budK
That makes the winter SpringB
The frost and snow his posies bringB
Nature's white spurts of the springB
