River Clyde Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABB CDEE AAFF GHIJ KKLL AAAA

The Glasgow people do take prideA
In their river both deep and wideA
In early times the youth and maidB
Did o'er its shallow waters wadeB
-
But city money did not grudgeC
And dug it deep with the steam dredgeD
And now proudly on its bosom floatsE
The mighty ships and great steamboatsE
-
No wonder citizens take prideA
For they themselves have made the ClydeA
Great and navigable riverF
Where huge fleets will float foreverF
-
Dunbarton's lofty castle rock GG
Which oft' has stood the battle's shockH
The river it doth boldly guardI
So industry may reap rewardJ
-
But more protection still they deemK
Is yet required so down the streamK
Strong batteries are erectedL
So commerce may be safe protectedL
-
Old ocean now he doth take prideA
To see upon his bosom rideA
The commerce of his youngest brideA
The fair and lovely charming ClydeA
