We wail and waitA
Shriek jump and shoutB
Sing and slaughterC
-
We mourn the memories mutedD
And tease the motionless meatE
Why didn't you notify us we askF
Wake up Wafula here's busaaG
-
Women wallop the utensilsG
They round the compoundH
Singing of sweet secretsG
With himI
And with exhaustion evenJ
Their labour by the hearthK
-
Contemporaries crackL
You're lying look at how you smileM
And whom have you left her forN
For relatives the corpse cutsG
A kinsman has to be brought backL
His memory must be mellowed in heartsG
And so nocturnal dancesG
And Wafula's conceived multiplyO
-
To bury a kinsmanP
Emotions wild and warmQ
Debts dead and dryO
Recounted and resolvedR
-
A kinsman's death and burialS
Is more meaningful than his birthT
Why would Corona or kanjoU
Think a kinsman's burialS
Is a dog's funeralS
