Rhyme Scheme: ABCCDDEEFF GGHHIIAAJJKKLMNFOOEE PPQNRRR MNFOOEEPPQNRRR SSJJJSJTUVVWRXYZJWith creaking boards upon our heads | A |
Our stomachs and rats chased after the same bread | B |
The very brave black self | C |
Was packed on deck like books on a shelf | C |
We couldn t breathe there was no air nor space | D |
No light so we hardly moved open space | D |
And inside the belly of a vessel | E |
We were their precious vessel | E |
being sailed away | F |
Then to the highest bidder to be sold away | F |
- | |
With our bodies bathed in salt | G |
The Black s dream comes to a halt | G |
Even in our anguish and dying pains | H |
We served to nourish your gains | H |
We re the reason your system is considered the best | I |
For you depended on our robustness to build your nest | I |
So why put out our courage before it spreads | A |
Tying us up in rusty threads | A |
Why has racism and stereotyping been our only honour | J |
And our deaths stirring up your sense of humour | J |
A rope at the neck has been our only way to freedom | K |
To a place to fantasize as a free kingdom | K |
A place of no lords nor slaves | L |
No Whites nor Blacks to be enslaved Blacks are human too | M |
Bleeding red and never black | N |
No more mental slavery I say | F |
Why stick to everyday torturing | O |
As a way of ensuring our nurturing | O |
Taming another man as if an animal | E |
Amassing our talents and resources to minimal | E |
Hey you there stop bleaching your skin | P |
for being black is never a sin | P |
It may now seem we re far from luck | Q |
Yet know that blacks will never lack | N |
for black absorbs light | R |
So surely it shines back so bright | R |
And our people will live right | R |
- | |
Blacks are human too | M |
Bleeding red and never black | N |
No more mental slavery I say | F |
Why stick to everyday torturing | O |
As a way of ensuring our nurturing | O |
Taming another man as if an animal | E |
Amassing our talents and resources to minimal | E |
Hey you there stop bleaching your skin | P |
for being black is never a sin | P |
It may now seem we re far from luck | Q |
Yet know that blacks will never lack | N |
for black absorbs light | R |
So surely it shines back so bright | R |
And our people will live right | R |
- | |
Being black is never wrong | S |
for the black is strong | S |
A time is coming and it s here | J |
When black will never lack nor fear | J |
And will be the hero of her story | J |
Like Jack and the beanstalk | S |
our beam will stall high to glory | J |
And bring luck to utilize our resources | T |
for the black do have | U |
The black has what it takes to be great | V |
Regardless of what history told us about our fate | V |
it s high time to unite and re write our fate in faith | W |
Because black is right and bright | R |
And can never be left behind | X |
Black is melanin | Y |
And the black will certainly survive | Z |
Those periods were bravery and never slavery | J |
