We had broken down walls
Set as boundaries to keep the other out.
It took ages to shape, map and plan
Our homes in divided territories.
We planted gardens together and tore down
The fence.
Said, 'Mi casa e sun casa' .
Alas , here we are yet again,
Walls up brick by brick,
Cemented , Godforbid should they crack.
Garden fence chained.
If locking the doors were not enough we bolt them.
Ignore the door bells, hide behind the curtains.
Said we, 'What's mine is not yours ' .
Once we walked towards each other,
Now you head east , I look west.
No knocking on my door if teabags are needed.
I shall not come for coffee.
Till when? The next morrow? Perhaps fortnight ?
Maybe never.
