An Evening In October Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDDEEFFGGHHIJKK LLMMNNOOEvening has thrown her hushing garment round | A |
This little world no harsh or jarring sound | A |
Disturbs my reverie The room is dark | B |
And kneeling at the window I can mark | B |
Each light and shadow of the scene below | C |
The placid glistening pools the streams that flow | C |
Through the red earth left by the hurrying tide | D |
The ridge of mountain on the farther side | D |
Shewing more black for many twinkling lights | E |
That come and go about the gathering heights | E |
Below me lie great wharves dreary and dim | F |
And lumber houses crowding close and grim | F |
Like giant shadowed guardians of the port | G |
With towering chimneys outlined tall and swart | G |
Against the silver pools Two figures pace | H |
The wharf in ghostly silence face from face | H |
O'er the black line of mountain silver clear | I |
In faint rose tint of vaporous evening air | J |
Sinketh the bright suspicion of a wing | K |
The slim curved moon who in shy triumphing | K |
Hideth her face Above the rose tint pales | L |
Into a silver opal hills and dales | L |
Of cloudy glory fading high alone | M |
Into a tender blue grey monotone | M |
And then I thought ere that fair slender moon | N |
Has rounded grown and full so soon so soon | N |
Our hearts' desire accomplished we shall see | O |
Dear one all light and joy and ecstasy | O |
