I am here on this side whereA
Children are born they shine like blissB
They are guarded like vaults of goldC
Fed like tiger puppies balmy lips bright eyesD
They are untouchable children of GodE

On this side they are never hungryF
Never cold nor hot their feet grace if grandeurG
Their bodies never naked if they don t choose toH
Their clothes patch less and brandedI
They are the children born of the lightJ

Just to look at them their skin tellsK
Of a world without a speckleL
Their tummies bulge with surfeitM
Still their trash cans fill upN
Monday to Sunday of food uneatenO

On this side they buy wholeP
When they need a quarterQ
They worry about obesity not starvationO
They spend to starve their bodiesR
They are the children of a greater GodE
-
I come from that other sideS
Where it is a privilege to be bornO
Let alone to grow up and dreamT
Ain t no big deal to go hungryF
With no shoes pants patched ten times overQ

On that side they die dailyF
Babies toddlers little boys and girlsU
There is no escape eternal sorrowV
The creatures of a lesser godE
They are born to run to struggleL
-
They run everyday to schoolW
Barefoot bare buttocks ashy lipsX
They dream of getting outY
Out of this bare naked lively hoodZ
These children forgotten forsakenO
-
On my side that dark sideS
Little girls baby girls virgin girls rapedA2
By adult men their fathers their protectorsB2
Their innocence ripped apartC2
Their innocence infected by dying menO
-
They wail these babies human babiesR
To deaf ears defeated heartsD2
Mothers enslaved in a man s worldE2
Humble women dutiful wives of AfricaF2
Subservient mired in a labor of loveG2
-
On the streets they roam on that sideS
They flood the cities children of the streetsH2
Outstretched hands begging naggingI2
Ostracized cursed minds and hearts paralyzedJ2
They live in their own worldE2
