When I was a little girlA
I have a tube coin bankB
An enclosed bamboo segmentC
With a slit at the sideD
It was one of the wallsE
Of our little houseF
-
I inserted a nickelG
From time to timeH
The remainder of my school allowanceI
My parents gave meJ
-
Sometimes I want to put a dimeH
And I will buyK
A boiled banana or sweet potatoL
For lunchM
-
Some years laterN
My father worked overseasO
Our simple abodeP
Was renovatedQ
From a bamboo houseF
To a stone houseF
-
My coin bankB
Was hammered and crushedR
The money withinS
Were scattered all aroundT
I cried when I gotU
My nickels and dimesV
-
My mother gifted meJ
A porcelain piggy bankB
In lieu of the damaged oneW
It came from the finest pottery makerN
In townX
With holes in the bellyJ
And in between earsY
-
My school allowance increasedZ
I put quarters in my new coin bankB
When it was fullA2
I got all the money insideD
And went straightB2
To the nearest bankB
-
When I finished schoolC2
My piggy bankB
Is still fit for useD2
I handed downX
To my favorite nephewE2
He kept it as the foundationW
Of a valued traitB2
