Sentimental Hangman Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEF GHGH IJIJKLKM MNMNDODP

'Tis hard to hang a husky ladA
When larks are in the skyB
It hurts when daffydills are gladA
To wring a neck awryB
When joy o' Spring is in the sapC
And cheery in the sunD
'Tis sad to string aloft a chapC
No matter what he doneD
-
And sittin' in the pub o' nightE
I hears that prison bellF
And wonders if it's reely rightE
To haste a man to hellF
-
For doin' what he had to doG
Through greed or lust or hateH
Aye them seem rightful words to youG
But me I calls it FateH
-
Lots more would flout the gallows treeI
But that they are afraidJ
And so to save societyI
I ply my grisly tradeJ
Yet as I throttle eager breathK
And plunge to his hell homeL
Some cringin' cove to me his deathK
Seems more like martyrdomM
-
For most o' us have held betimeM
Foul murder in the heartN
And them sad blokes I swung for crimeM
Were doomed right from the startN
Of wilful choosing they had noneD
For freedom's most a fraudO
And maybe in the end the oneD
Responsible is GodP
