The Cuckoo Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEFGHGH IJKJLMLN OPOPQRSR

The cuckoo like a hawk in flightA
With narrow pointed wingsB
Whews o'er our heads soon out of sightA
And as she flies she singsB
And darting down the hedgerow sideC
She scares the little birdD
Who leaves the nest it cannot hideC
While plaintive notes are heardD
-
I've watched it on an old oak treeE
Sing half an hour awayF
Until its quick eye noticed meE
And then it whewed awayF
Its mouth when open shone as redG
As hips upon the brierH
Like stock doves seemed its winged headG
But striving to get higherH
-
It heard me rustle and above leavesI
Soon did its flight pursueJ
Still waking summer's melodiesK
And singing as it flewJ
So quick it flies from wood to woodL
'Tis miles off 'ere you think it goneM
I've thought when I have listening stoodL
Full twenty sang when only oneN
-
When summer from the forest startsO
Its melody with silence liesP
And like a bird from foreign partsO
It cannot sing for all it triesP
'Cuck cuck' it cries and mocking boysQ
Crie 'Cuck' and then it stutters moreR
Till quick forgot its own sweet voiceS
It seems to know itself no moreR
