Mary Appleby Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCACA DADABEBE FGFGHBIB BBBBJEJE

I look upon the hedgerow flowerA
I gaze upon the hedgerow treeB
I walk alone the silent hourA
And think of Mary ApplebyB
I see her in the brimming streamsC
I see her in the gloaming hourA
I hear her in my Summer dreamsC
Of singing bird and blooming flowerA
-
For Mary is the dearest birdD
And Mary is the sweetest flowerA
That in Spring bush was ever heardD
That ever bloomed on bank or bowerA
O bonny Mary ApplebyB
The sun did never sweeter shineE
Than when in youth I courted theeB
And dreaming fancied you'd be mineE
-
The lark above the meadow singsF
Wood pigeons coo in ivied treesG
The butterflies on painted wingsF
Dance daily with the meadow beesG
All Nature is in happy moodH
The sueing breeze is blowing freeB
And o'er the fields and by the woodI
I think of Mary ApplebyB
-
O bonny Mary ApplebyB
My once dear Mary ApplebyB
A crown of gold thy own should beB
My handsome Mary ApplebyB
Thy face is like the Summer roseJ
Its maiden bloom is all divineE
And more than all the world bestowsJ
I'd give had Mary e'er been mineE
