At The Foot Of Clifford Hill Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AAABCCCB DDDAEEEA FFFAGGHA IJIAKKKA

Who loves the white thorn treeA
And the river running freeA
There a maiden stood with meA
In Summer weatherB
Near a cottage far from townC
While the sun went brightly downC
O'er the meadows green and brownC
We loved togetherB
-
How sweet her drapery flowedD
While the moor cock oddly crowedD
I took the kiss which love bestowedD
Under the white thorn treeA
Soft winds the water curledE
The trees their branches furledE
Sweetest nook in all the worldE
Is where she stood with meA
-
Calm came the evening airF
The sky was sweet and fairF
In the river shadowed thereF
Close by the hawthorn treeA
Round her neck I clasped my armsG
And kissed her rosy charmsG
O'er the flood the hackle swarmsH
Where the maiden stood with meA
-
O there's something falls so dearI
On the music of the earJ
Where the river runs so clearI
And my lover met with meA
At the foot of Clifford HillK
Still I hear the clacking millK
And the river's running stillK
Under the trysting treeA
