They told me once, a heart that is kind
will always find joy, with peace intertwined.
But I have wandered with hope in my chest,
and learned how the gentle are often distressed.
I trusted the voices, the smiles that I saw,
believing in mercy, in love without flaw.
Yet silence returned, and shadows grew near,
the good heart was wounded by all it held dear.
It dreamed of the sunlight, it longed for the rain,
but kindness was answered with sorrow and pain.
Still, though it falters, it beats through the night,
a lantern that flickers, yet clings to the light.
So sing of the heart that suffers, yet stays,
that rises from ashes, through countless decays.
For broken it may be, but never apart—
the world cannot silence a brave, good heart.
