For how can a youth get learning | B |
With his eyes aye fixed on a pretty lass | D |
And his heart aye filled with yearning | B |

Who finds 'mong the rushes which fringe a pool | E |
She told him the first wind blossom | F |
May wish what he will poor April fool | E |
With but one wish in his bosom | F |

Her gray eyes danced on a wild goose chase | G |

And later she'd laugh in his sombre face | G |

But penitence and a troubled mind | I |
