Every Rose Hath Its Thorn Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABB AACC AADD AABB AABB EFGG

There was a maiden all forlornA
She loved a youth his name was ThornA
But he was shy for to discloseB
How he loved dear the sweet May RoseB
-
Lustre sweet it would give to ThornA
If this fair flower would it adornA
Said he all other names aboveC
Your charming name alone I loveC
-
Said she of beauty 'tis soon shornA
Unless that it is joined to ThornA
It very soon doth droop and dieD
And she heaved a gentle sighD
-
Said he we'll wed to morrow mornA
No more from me you shall be tornA
For you will banish all my woesB
And near my heart I'll wear the roseB
-
Now little rose buds they are bornA
All clinging to the parent ThornA
In grace and beauty each one growsB
Full worthy of the sweet May RoseB
-
Some flowers they only shed their bloomE
In the sweet month of leafy JuneF
But May doth bloom each month in yearG
A fragrant Rose forever dearG
