I
A trader today
Told me Trump's reelection bid
Gives him insomnia
Had he the means
He'd flown to US
And stuffed the boxes
As wicked Nigerian politicians are wont
Killing and maiming to win;

I marvel
At the interest of Nigerians
Who're here and have nothing
About what's happening
Outside our shores fret
About the polls in America,
Many prayed
Some held vigils
Others held rallies
All for Trum forgetting
When it comes to ours
They have to be begged
To obtain PVS
And on election days
They need to be bribed
To vote, if not they'd never leave
The comforts of their homes;

Yet look at us dying
For a candidate in a faraway land
Whose victory no way
Affects our lives,
Vanity!
Afikpo people would say
"The Aro man prefers
Other people's market
To his." Is the saying true?
Nigerians proved it in Trump!
II
Probably Trump
Envies African despots
Who cling to power
As we all cling to life
Maybe he thought
He could scuttle the system;

Success
Has many fathers,
Failure is a bloody orphan
For even as Trump complains
Of being rigged out
And his supporters made cases
But their voices are drowned
As world leaders he dined
And wined with are busy
Congratulating his opponent
Signalling to him
The game is over
They wouldn't identify
With a bloody loser
No matter who he is
Or how wide his influence;

The great man of the pen
Said the world is a stage
And the people are actors,
The English say
To leave the stage
When ovation is loudest
The religious talk
Of reading the handwriting on the wall
My people would say
If you don't know
Where the rain started
Beating you you wouldn't
Know where it stopped,
All these are for wise people.
III
Trump acted
Like he'd occupy
The White House forever
Made more enemies
Than friends forgetting
That power is transient
And never lasts forever;

That's why many
Were in such a hurry
To cast their lot behind
His opponent even as
He shouted himself hoarse
Trying to convince
A world that's not listening
He was rigged out.
