Winter Sleep Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBA CDDC EFFG HIIH

I know it must be winter though I sleepA
I know it must be winter for I dreamB
I dip my bare feet in the running streamB
And flowers are many and the grass grows deepA
-
I know I must be old how age deceivesC
I know I must be old for all unseenD
My heart grows young as autumn fields grow greenD
When late rains patter on the falling sheavesC
-
I know I must be tired and tired souls errE
I know I must be tired for all my soulF
To deeds of daring beats a glad faint rollF
As storms the riven pine to music stirG
-
I know I must be dying Death draws nearH
I know I must be dying for I craveI
Life life strong life and think not of the graveI
And turf bound silence in the frosty yearH
