Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDEF CGCH FFFF

The rose that budded a flower in the springA
And budded no more flowers but oneB
And the bees that bite and the bees that stingA
Will never see it shaded by the sunB
-
And that rose it ne'er budded another in summerC
Nor noticed by mountain goats and hummingbirdsD
But kept in gloom the only few petalsE
And a thousand thorns by its sepalF
-
And that special rose it budded three in winterC
A thousand filaments it developed with loveG
That when the butterflies will come up from the riverC
They shall sip from the only flower they haveH
-
But autumn came and the petals fellF
And the butterflies there they flyF
And so the one butterfly he knew so wellF
That the roots of a rose will never dieF
