Gather The Harvest Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDEFE AGHGIJGJ K

Gather the harvest though reaped in deathA
Under the pale pale moonB
For the lilies that joyed in the breath of mornC
Shall know not the ardor of noonB
So the souls that grow strong in patriot loveD
Shall be garnered on Death's dark fieldE
Ere the noontide rays have touched the valeF
And burnished with gold life's shieldE
-
Gather the harvest though reaped in deathA
Where the sword has struck for RightG
And cleft a way for Freedom's pathH
Through the dark and tremulous nightG
For the golden grain on the altar flamesI
And lights each pilgrim throngJ
As they meet in joy 'round that altar brightG
Where Justice shall right each wrongJ
