You remember Ellen our hamlet's prideA
How meekly she bless'd her humble lotB
When the stranger William had made her his brideA
And love was the light of their lowly cotB
Together they toil'd through winds and rainsC
Till William at length in sadness saidD
We must seek our fortune on other plainsC
Then sighing she left her lowly shedD
-
They roam'd a long and a weary wayE
Nor much was the maiden's heart at easeF
When now at close of one stormy dayE
They see a proud castle among the treesF
To night said the youth we'll shelter thereG
The wind blows cold the hour is lateH
So he blew the horn with a chieftain's airG
And the porter bow'd as they passd the gateH
-
Now welcome Lady exclaim'd the youthI
This castle is thine and these dark woods allJ
She believed him crazed but his words were truthI
For Ellen is Lady of Rosna HallJ
And dearly the Lord of Rosna lovesK
What William the stranger woo'd and wedD
And the light of bliss in these lordly grovesL
Shines pure as it did in the lowly shedD
