Erin, Oh Erin Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCD EFEFGG HIHIHH

Like the bright lamp that shone in Kildare's holy faneA
And burn'd through long ages of darkness and stormB
Is the heart that sorrows have frown'd on in vainA
Whose spirit outlives them unfading and warmB
Erin oh Erin thus bright through the tearsC
Of a long night of bondage thy spirit appearsD
-
The nations have fallen and thou still art youngE
Thy sun is but rising when others are setF
And though slavery's cloud o'er thy morning hath hungE
The full noon of freedom shall beam round thee yetF
Erin oh Erin though long in the shadeG
Thy star will shine out when the proudest shall fadeG
-
Unchill'd by the rain and unwaked by the windH
The lily lies sleeping through winter's cold hourI
Till Spring's light touch her fetters unbindH
And daylight and liberty bless the young flowerI
Thus Erin oh Erin thy winter is pastH
And the hope that lived through it shall blossom at lastH
