Written On The Death Of General Washington. Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAC DEFE GHGH IJIJ

Lamented Chief at thy distinguish'd deedsA
The world shall gaze with wonder and applauseB
While on fair History's page the patriot readsA
Thy matchless virtue in thy Country's causeC
-
Yes it was thine amid destructive warD
To shield it nobly from oppression's chainE
By justice arm'd to brave each threat'ning jarF
Assert its freedom and its rights maintainE
-
Much honour'd Statesman Husband Father FriendG
A generous nation's grateful tears are thineH
E'en unborn ages shall thy worth commendG
And never fading laurels deck thy shrineH
-
Illustrious Warrior on the immortal baseI
By Freedom rear'd thy envied name shall standJ
And Fame by Truth inspired shall fondly traceI
Thee Pride and Guardian of thy Native LandJ
