Black Boys Blues Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCC BDCC EBFG HBIB CCBB AJKL MNON

I am a young black manA
Swimming in a sea of stereotypes and stigmasB
Navigating a world that doesn't know or understand meC
Existing in a place that often seeks to harm meC
-
I'm told that my blackness is a curseB
That I came into this world doomed to suffer and hurtD
That my skin color is a liabilityC
That I will always be a problem to societyC
-
But I am not just a color or a labelE
I am a person with dreams and aspirationsB
With a heart that beats with passion and loveF
A soul that yearns for connection and compassionG
-
Sometimes I feel like I'm drowningH
In a world that is deaf to my criesB
Where my pain and anger are silencedI
Dismissed as just another black boy's liesB
-
But I refuse to let them define meC
To let their ignorance and hate control meC
I will rise above their bigotry and biasB
I will break the chains of their stereotypes and quiet usB
-
Yes I am a young black manA
But I am also so much moreJ
I am a human being with dignity and worthK
A person who deserves respect and supportL
-
So let me walk my path with my head held highM
Let me own my strength and my prideN
For I am a young black man and I matterO
And my voice and my stories cannot be deniedN
