Marching out was not a choice we madeA
In those slave ships wistfully we sangB
To keep our souls from drowningC
Our sufferance drove us into apostasyD
Feeling deceived by the power aboveE
We hummed all the way afloat the oceansD
We survived the worst and survive we willF
-
Is it our fate to sufferG
Is it our destiny to perish silentlyH
Haven t we slaved enough for our afflictionsD
Haven t we sang God bless our AfricaI
-
We sit today on the high chairs of the diasporaI
Remembering that we were kingsD
Of a kingdom cruelly demeanedJ
Kings silenced and demoted to servantsD
To lift high foreign thronesD
Those that we will never sit crowns we will never wearK
-
God help us sing our songL
It is the song of our lifeM
The song of our KingdomN
That which forever livesD
Long live our Africa hail our motherlandO
-
How long are we gonna cryP
Cry for this world to see beyondQ
See deeper than the darkness of our skinR
Why should we cry for what do we cryP
When we are the only race of the worldS
With a motherland still dark and pureT
Why don t we pride for being the mother of humanityH
Haven t we stood the test of timeU
In the face of all tyranny and treacheryH
We should be the greatest of all racesD
-
Is it our fate to sufferG
Is it our destiny to perish silentlyH
Haven t we slaved enough for our afflictionsD
Haven t we sang God bless our AfricaI
-
We danced and waved our spears in our decencyH
Raised our fists on the AmistadV
Marched the white streets of AlabamaI
Took the bullets in SowetoW
Never laid down for our rightsD
Our voices have grown horseD
To songs of anger and anguishX
No need for us to sulkY
We got our feet on the groundZ
We have fought the best of our battlesD
No need for us to fight anymoreA2
We got to march onB2
-
God help us sing our songL
It is the song of our lifeM
The song of our kingdomN
Which will forever liveC2
Long live our Africa hail to our mother landO
