Thirty something years agoA
I ran bare foot running for my dreamsB
Through the waters of Chinyani I paddledC
To get to the plateau Madamombe SchoolD
My Alma mater where this heart was builtE
-
History for real repeats itselfF
My name sake my son runs that one and half mileG
Again and again he runs dreaming like I didH
Trying to be the best the best of whateverI
I see you boy run and run for your dreamsB
-
Though for me it's been a tough journeyJ
It's all worthwhile cause it's an experienceK
It strengthens me gives me tenacityJ
I haven't made it but I will go onL
Dreams are but my escape the reason and purpose I hang onL
-
Never give up son never you tire dream onL
Stand up and be seen never you live on your kneesM
For you are better off dying on your feetN
Because in life after death you will know you triedO
It's the dreamers who built RomeP
-
I see the dry lips I know you go hungry sometimesQ
It reflects in my memory I went hungry tooR
I don't attempt to justify your situationS
I still try hard son to give you the bestT
I struggle yes I do because I hope for progressU
-
I see you perched on that stoolD
It's the same I sat on twenty five years agoA
I know you write your dreams keep writingV
I know Teacher Chikuse doesn't play he was the same with meJ
But he gave me dreams enough to give you someW
I learned to listen it molded me into a manX
-
I know it's hard when you don't see me I swearY
It's hard as hell for me because I miss youR
I can t imagine the pain if it's more so for youR
-
But keep running for those dreams praying and hopingV
They are not as bare as your feetN
-
I know that African sun scorches sometimesQ
But you still got to run run for those dreamsB
And I have gone through those freezing winter morningsZ
I know how hard it is to wake up and runS
Those bare feet made my dreams frozen as they wereI
-
Your star will always shine sonS
Look up in the sky high up beyond those cloudsA2
It might be hard to pick but I promise it's thereY
It will always shine for you andB2
All you need is to keep searching keep dreamingV
-
There are thousands of us who ran that pathC2
Those two pronged thorns gored our feet one a many timesQ
Yes it hurt we plucked them out and we kept goingV
Sometimes tip toeing to avoid them we moved onL
That s a passion you risk losing in lifeD2
-
I dream babe dream of you every nightE2
How I want to be with you help with your homeworkF2
How I want to laugh run after you andB2
Challenge that you still can't beat meJ
It just grows my ego to know thatG2
One day you will beat me to my own gameH2
