I was born in Rhodesia, yes I was
And grew up there, yes I did
Home now is Zimbabwe, whose future I pray for
Whose mistakes I abhor, but still home to me
Its name I adore, its colors I adorn.

Not in my most sorrowful moments do I envy Rhodesia
Yes it was a mistake of history
Which I wish I could soothe with my story
For the sake of those spirits that today roam
In the hope of someday being home.

Sure Rhodesia I want to forget
Its colors I want to abrogate
The seeds of hope I wish I could sow
So again to wipe the brow
Of a people so full of love and toil.

We all shared differently, the pain and joy of Rhodesia
Yes that's what divided us on each end
I really don't miss going back where I was then
To my pain end, I was so enslaved
I know deep down, your soul has no wish to go
Back there to a joy bought of pain and tears.

Where did go, the hearts full of prayers
Prayers that got Mandela to a free world
A better world, for which he buried pain for love
Who would love the monster of apartheid, not me?

What a History we share as black and white
The ignorance and trickery of our fore bearers
That part we can't erase, it's our story
But what we can do, we all know
Write our part into History
And give the next generation no reason to fuss.

That land we fought each other for, it was all for the love
That piece of land, lovely as ever been
Nicely tacked between the Zambezi and Limpopo
Cries for us, that we leave the confines of Babylon
It is there, enough for us to share without a fight
It's sunshine and cool breeze abundant for us to enjoy.

We were all heroes of our times and purposes
That page we flipped past, it's antiquated
Now what we need is love and forgiveness
That we may be today's heroes for the future
A future so bleak unless we act now
Forgive, forget and go on
To a better world we will pride to leave.

We sweat and toil building strange lands
Ours we watch and mourn
Our tears flow high enough to drown us
Such that beyond the ripples we can hardly see
The sun rising daily to a new dawn
Let's catch the tide before it's too late
It's only love we need, it was love that we needed.
