Last night I went to da clubA
With my African brothers and sisters we gyrated to our musicB
Dressed immaculate they looked out of this worldC
There goes my people I said enjoying their sweat and toilD
I had fifty dollars on me I bought myself a night of joyE
The hiatus from a prosaic servitudeF
-
I woke up this morning struggling through a hangoverG
Flipping through the channels of my flat screenH
ABC feed the children program catches my attentionI
A minute of watching I flip pastJ
I know these pictures first handK
But I shun to watch them againL
They are pictures of meM
I guess I am just like all my people selfish insideN
-
My heart aches I have a feeling inside that tears me apartO
I flip back to watch the suffering African childP
The White American pleads with me for nine dollarsQ
I know I can do it but why don't IR
Why don't they tears run downS
I like many others abandoned my patriotismT
Left home to pursue a dream to better lifeU
I live it spend it and never give it backV
-
God gives us the calls and gives us the blessingsW
When we accept them we hope to do the best to serve himX
Always we phenomenally forget our purposesY
And we let the world and its opportunities roll byR
This unfortunate world we live in and not learnZ
-
If we all gave a tear drop for our problemsA2
-
Wouldn't we fill up a dam for the world to drinkB2
If we all gave up a meal a dayC2
Wouldn't we eliminate hunger in a world that needs usD2
If we would all give up a night of joyE
I know I know we can illuminateE2
This sad universe with a wide smileF2
-
How I wish God could bless only those who heed his callsG2
Those who give selflessly to the world beyond their bordersQ
Those who give hope even to a world that forgets itselfH2
I know my father meant to teach whenL
He told me to be good to those I leave behindI2
Because where I go it's darknessD2
-
Today I feel challenged as an AfricanI
I keep running from my problems who will solve them for meM
I keep pretending everything is alrightJ2
But cover my face when it's time to look at life in the faceK2
Cowards African cowards we need to rise up to the challengeL2
-
We run away from the rulers of doomM2
Give up our birth right to treachery and cowardiceD2
We land in the land of beauty beautify it we doN2
We blind our imagination to the bright lightsO2
So down goes our dreams our childrenI
The future of the Dark ContinentP2
