Chimurenga Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBBCD EFGHIJKL MNOPQR CSTUFVW XYOZA2B2

There are great namesA
Of patriots never forgottenB
Warrior spirits never rottenB
Their dreams not gottenB
Souls never sold nor boughtC
Blood spilt never soughtD
-
They stood up to injusticeE
To thievery to rape to treacheryF
Their trust reneged their love picayuneG
They took to war for their respectH
Beaten they never evincedI
Aloud they cried to their God they kneltJ
They vowed never they would lieK
Down for the suckers to hunchL
-
Finally they sand they marchedM
In their ruins the spirits roseN
Home at last free at last they chantedO
But under their throne the vipers spurredP
Their venomous fangs hidden in white gumsQ
Without a fight they wouldn t leaveR
-
Easy how they forgotC
A century ago kings they droveS
From their shrines dethronedT
Herds of their wealth they stoleU
Their land they grabbed for freeF
Now the leopard has to be draggedV
But its white spots must not stainW
-
How easy does human kind forgetX
The whip and the lash s cutY
Easy it is to wipe off the tears of one jiltedO
Who knows the pain of the child orphanedZ
Isn t it the soil that knows the sickness of baby miceA2
Only the tree never forgets that the ax bruised itB2
