Once to a crowded social feteS
Both these much titled people cameT
And each perceived when introducedU
They had the selfsame nameT
Their hostess said when first they metV
Permit me now to introduceJ
My good friend Mr ClabberhuseJ
To Mrs ClabberhuseJ
-
'Tis very strange said she to himW
Such an unusual nameT
A name so very seldom heardX
That we should bear the sameT
Indeed 'tis wonderful said heJ
And I'm surprised the moreY
Because I never heard the nameT
Outside my home beforeY
-
But now I come to look at youZ
Said he upon my lifeA2
If I am not indeed deceivedB2
You are you are my wifeA2
She gazed into his searching faceJ
And seemed to look him throughZ
Indeed said she it seems to meJ
You are my husband tooZ
-
I've been so busy with my clubsJ
And in my various spheresJ
I have not seen you now she saidC2
For over fourteen yearsJ
That's just the way it's been with meJ
These clubs demand a sightF
And then they both politely bowedD2
And sweetly said Good nightF
