Ideal Husband To His Wife, The Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDEFEGHIH JKLKMNONPHIH QRSRTUDVPWIW

We've lived for forty years dear wifeA
And walked together side by sideB
And you to day are just as dearC
As when you were my brideB
I've tried to make life glad for youD
One long sweet honeymoon of joyE
A dream of marital contentF
Without the least alloyE
I've smoothed all boulders from our pathG
That we in peace might toil alongH
By always hastening to admitI
That I was right and you were wrongH
-
No mad diversity of creedJ
Has ever sundered me from theeK
For I permit you evermoreL
To borrow your ideas of meK
And thus it is through weal or woeM
Our love forevermore enduresN
For I permit that you should takeO
My views and creeds and make them yoursN
And thus I let you have my wayP
And thus in peace we toil alongH
For I am willing to admitI
That I am right and you are wrongH
-
And when our matrimonial skiffQ
Strikes snags in love's meandering streamR
I lift our shallop from the rocksS
And float as in a placid dreamR
And well I know our marriage blissT
While life shall last will never ceaseU
For I shall always let thee doD
In generous love just what I pleaseV
Peace comes and discord flies awayP
Love's bright day follows hatred's nightW
For I am ready to admitI
That you are wrong and I am rightW
