Poet's note: The poem is about the human experience during a time of isolation and struggle, likely referring to the COVID-19 pandemic. It reflects on the past when love was more prominent and emotions flowed freely. The poem discusses the feeling of being confined, comparing ourselves to "jailbirds" within our own homes, surrounded by strangers who are also battling their own challenges. The poem also highlights the difficulties of communication in this isolated world, where we can't connect face-to-face as we used to. The homes have become metaphorical "time bombs," ready to explode with the slightest illness. The streets are empty, leaving a sense of loneliness and desolation. The poem questions the purpose of our existence and the idea of living with a limited amount of time. It raises the question, "If this is how we are going to leave, then why did we come at all in the first place?" The poem encourages readers to reflect on the importance of connection, empathy, and the value of shared experiences during these challenging times. This poem is a powerful exploration of the human experience during these unprecedented times. The themes of resilience, isolation, and longing for connection are masterfully woven together, creating a poignant and thought-provoking piece. The use of vivid imagery and evocative language adds depth to the emotions conveyed, making it a memorable and impactful work. I would rate this poem a 9.5 out of 10. It is a remarkable piece of writing that captures the essence of the times we are living in and encourages readers to reflect on the importance of connection and the value of our shared experiences.
