| And lo there sprang into my sight | A |

| While strange corruption and decay | E |
| Surprised me everywhere | F |
| Dismayed I put my specs away | E |
| Such truth I could not bear | F |

| With clarity of view | H |
| For while there's heaven hell may be | G |
| More tragically true | H |
| Though dim may be Reality | G |
