Rhyme Scheme: AABCCBDDEFFG AABAABAAAAAA HIJAAJKKLMMLI call myself a Tranquilist | A |
With deep detachment I exist | A |
From friction free | B |
While others court the gilded throng | C |
And worship Women Wine and Song | C |
I scorn the three | B |
For I have reached the sober age | D |
When I prefer to turn a page | D |
Beside the fire | E |
And from the busy mart of men | F |
To meditative book and pen | F |
With grace retire | G |
- | |
If you are craving peace of mind | A |
In Tranquilism you will find | A |
Philosophy | B |
Serenely fold your hands and wait | A |
Be cloistered calm whatever fate | A |
The Gods decree | B |
And though the world with rage be rent | A |
Hold it remote and claim content | A |
With quiet heart | A |
You can't do much to better it | A |
But your good will may help a bit | A |
Ere you depart | A |
- | |
So let us who are old and sere | H |
To din of battle shut the ear | I |
And trumpet vain | J |
And though in no monastic mood | A |
Accept the balm of solitude | A |
And grace regain | J |
Let us be Tranquilists and try | K |
In placid places to apply | K |
Life's wisdom won | L |
In Nature's bounty we may bless | M |
The Gods and wait with thankfulness | M |
Our setting sun | L |
