The Seed Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEFGHGH IJIJKLKL GMGMNHNH

I was a seed that fellA
In silver dewB
And nobody could tellA
For no one knewB
No one could tell my fateC
As I grew tallD
None visioned me with hateC
No none at allD
-
A sapling I becameE
Blest by the sunF
No rumour of my shameE
Had any oneF
Oh I was proud indeedG
And sang with gleeH
When from a tiny seedG
I grew a treeH
-
I was so stout and strongI
Though still so youngJ
When sudden came a throngI
With angry tongueJ
They cleft me to the coreK
With savage blowsL
And from their ranks a roarK
Of rage aroseL
-
I was so proud a seedG
A tree to growM
Surely there was no needG
To lay me lowM
Why did I end so illN
The midst of threeH
Black crosses on a hillN
Called CalvaryH
