The Sacrifices Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABACDADA CBCBEFEF ABABGHGH IJKKLMLM

Twin boys I bore my joy my careA
My hope my life they were to meB
Their father dashing debonairA
Fell fighting at GallipoliC
His daring gallantry no doubtD
They 'herited in equal shareA
So when the Second War broke outD
With eagerness they chose the airA
-
Said Dick The sea's too bally slowC
A flying ship's the one for meB
Said Peter Land Foot slogging noC
The jolly sky's my cup of teaB
Well Dick bailed out in Channel flightE
His foam flailed body never foundF
While Peter with his plane alightE
Dashed down to death on Kentish groundF
-
Gay lads they were and tall and fairA
And had they chosen land or seaB
Shirking the hazards of the airA
They might still have been left to meB
But nothing could I say or doG
To move their scorn of sea and landH
Like eagles to the sun they flewG
Why Only they could understandH
-
Hw day and night I prayed for themI
But knew that it was ll in vainJ
They measured with heroic menK
Yet I will never pray againK
Though time may grieve my hair to greyL
My lips will never kiss the rodM
Only in dying I may sayL
In pity I forgive you GodM
