Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EBEB AFAF GB GB

They turned him loose he bowed his headA
A felon bent and greyB
His face was even as the DeadA
He had no word to sayB
-
He sought the home of his old loveC
To look on her once moreD
And where her roses breathed aboveC
He cowered beside the doorD
-
She sat there in the shining roomE
Her hair was silver greyB
He stared and stared from out the gloomE
He turned to go awayB
-
Her roses rustled overheadA
She saw with sudden startF
I knew that you would come she saidA
And held him to her heartF
-
Her face was rapt and angel sweetG
She touched his hair of greyB
-
-
-
But he sob shaken at her feetG
Could only pray and prayB
