The Record Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD ACECCFCF GHGHIJKJ ADADFLFL

Fearing that she might go one dayA
With some fine fellow of her choiceB
I called her from her childish playA
And made a record of her voiceB
And now that she is truly goneC
I hear it sweet and crystal clearD
From out my wheezy gramophoneC
I love you Daddy dearD
-
Indeed it's true she went awayA
But Oh she went all all aloneC
Into the dark she went for ayeE
Poor little mite ere girlhood grownC
Ah that I could with her have goneC
But this is all I have to showF
A ghost voice on a gramophoneC
Dear Dad I love you soF
-
The saddest part of loss 'tis saidG
Is that time tempers our regretH
But that is treason to the deadG
I'll not forget I'll not forgetH
Sole souvenir of golden yearsI
'Twas best to break this disc in twoJ
And spare myself a spate of tearsK
But this I cannot doJ
-
So I will play it every dayA
And it will seem that she is nearD
And once again I'll hear her sayA
I love you so Oh Daddy dearD
And then her kiss a stab of woeF
The record ends I breathe a pleaL
Oh God speed me to where I knowF
Wee lass you wait for meL
