Rhyme Scheme: ABACDEDE FGHGIEI EEEEJKJ| France is the fairest land on earth | A |
| Lovely to heart's desire | B |
| And twice a year I span its girth | A |
| Its beauty to admire | C |
| But when a pub I seek each night | D |
| To my profound vexation | E |
| On form they hand me I've to write | D |
| My occupation | E |
| - | |
| So once in a derisive mood | F |
| My pen I nibbled | G |
| And though I know I never should | H |
| 'Gangster' I scribbled | G |
| But as the clerk with startled face | I |
| Looked stark suspicion | E |
| I blurred it out and in its place | I |
| Put 'Politician ' | - |
| - | |
| Then suddenly dissolved his frown | E |
| His face fused to a grin | E |
| As humorously he set down | E |
| The form I handed in | E |
| His shrug was eloquent to view | J |
| Quoth he 'What's in a name | K |
| In France alas the lousy two | J |
