Conducting his own caseB
'Your Lordship I have gone to farA
But grant me of your graceB
As I was passing by a shopC

And though I begged of it to stopC
It stole beyond a doubtD

'But why should my whole body beE
Condemned to dungeon grimF
For what in fact was only theG
Transgression of a limbF
So here before the Court I standH
And beg in Justice' nameI
Please penalise my arm and handH
But not my frame '-
-
Outspoke the Judge with voice of iceJ
Although a smile he hidK
'Quite right You should not pay the priceJ
For what one member didK
Your reasoning I must admitL
Your arm should gaol expectM
Three months And if you follow itL
The Court does not object '-
-
The culprit smiled with sudden charmN
Then to the Court's dismayO
Quickly removed a wooden armN
And went awayO
